Niche Marketing
By Stephen Cooper

Do you ever get the feeling that everything has already been done on the internet. The big corporations like Amazon and Ebay have it all wrapped up.

While it's certainly true that very few new ideas are appearing and if you have a totally new idea for a website then you must capitalise on it.
There is absolutly no point competing with the big dogs of the internet but what you can do instead is look for a niche market in which you have a better chance of succeeding.

An example of this might be an auction site which specialises in used VW cars and camper vans.
If you search google for "used VW cars and camper vans Auction" you will find one auction site in the No.1 postion (No prizes for guessing correctly) . I checked five pages deep and there are no specialist used VW cars and camper vans auction sites. The market for used VW cars and camper vans is huge and you will be competing with other used car sites but a specialsist VW auction site would attract individuals who are looking to sell their own vehicles as Ebay attracts individuals to sell on the internet.

This is purely an example but I am sure you will be able to think of hundreds of other ideas for specialist auction sites. I can and I am develeloping one at the moment.

Another example might be scale model cars (staying with the VW car theme) of course there are lots of sites when you search google but if you specialise and search google for "scale Model VW Cars to buy" the competition is still there but it is more manageable. You need to be specific but not too much as there will be no demand.

A little competition is healthy and helps you to be more creative with you marketing efforts.

You will need to properly research the market for the supply and demand of your keywords and the best way to do this is to use google to determine the supply of your keyword and 7search's Keyword Activity Lookup Tool to view the number of searches for a keyword, the demand for that keyword.

I do not have time in this article to go into details about how to do this but I would highly recommend reading Ken Evoys Free Affiliate Master Course where he shows in great detail how to find the best keywords by looking at the supply and demand for that keyword. Ken also looks at other ways to promote your site.

If we built the two sites then we could market them like this; A text link on the scale model site saying something like "Do you want to buy the real thing! Visit the only VW auction site on the net!". We could put a text link on the auction site "Get a scale model of your beloved VW from the only specialist VW scale model site on the net!"

So we have found out that we do not need to compete with the big corporations and that it is possible to find a niche in almost any area if you research the market sufficiently.
